More British travellers are applying with the Online Indian Visa

More British travellers are using the Online Indian Visa System

Tourism in India has been growing rapidly in recent years and has become an important part of the economy. The introduction of the Online Indian Visa in 2014 has made it easier for travelers to obtain a visa to visit India. The electronic visa system created by the Indian government is a simpler process which requires travelers to complete an online form with their personal details and passport information. The number of British citizens that used the Indian online visa system in 2017 was over 300,000. There are still people who apply for a regular visa at the embassy, but the number has been decreasing steadily since the launch of the electronic system.

A spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents said, "India is a very important destination for the UK travel industry with almost a million visits in 2017, a combination of leisure, business trips and people visiting friends and family." He added that "the e-visa system has helped make the process of visiting India much more straightforward." With the e-Visa for India, a British traveler can visit India twice within a 60-day period.

Electronic visa systems are becoming increasingly popular around the world, just last week, Ukraine launched their electronic visa system in order to promote tourism and improve border control. One of the first countries to establish an electronic travel authorization was the United States. The US ESTA is a migratory requirement for citizens from visa exempt countries.
