malaysia evisa available for business travelers

Malaysia eVisa now available for Business travelers

The Malaysia eVisa, also known as Single-Entry Visa (SEV) that allows foreign visitors to apply online for an electronic visa, has been extended to include those traveling for business purposes. At first, the eVisa, launched in March 2016, was aimed at Chinese and Indian citizens traveling for touristic purposes. It has since then been extended to include 8 more nationalities. As of now, nationals and citizens of the following 10 countries can apply for a Malaysia eVisa for both touristic and business purposes:

  1. China
  2. India
  3. Sri Lanka
  4. Nepal
  5. Myanmar
  6. Bangladesh
  7. Pakistan
  8. Bhutan
  9. Serbia
  10. Montenegro

How the business Malaysia eVisa works

The Malaysia eVisa, or SEV, takes 48-hours to process. Applicants are required to complete an online form with their personal information and submit a scanned passport-sized photograph, their passport’s biometric page, and the booking for the return flight. The electronic visa is valid for 3 months and allows visitors to stay in Malaysia for up to 30 days. It is a non-extendable, single-entry visa, which means each visa can only be used once.

The Business Malaysia eVisa is limited to certain activities. Applicants cannot engage in paid activities under the Business SEV, for example. A Malaysia Business eVisa will only be issued to applicants who are visiting a current project site or factory for assessment purposes with no hands-on work, or to attend business seminars or meetings, in which contract discussions are allowed. Applicants may also engage in company audits, factory inspection, carrying out investment opportunities and surveys. The Malaysia Business eVisa also applies to journalists and competing athletes.

Applicants are required to have a valid travel document, or passport, valid for at least 6 months.

Applications are subject to approval from the Malaysian Immigration Department or Malaysian Mission Office. Once applications are approved, applicants will receive their visa via e-mail. Once foreign visitors receive their approved eVisa, they must print it in A4 format and carry it with them at all times while in Malaysia.

All employers and employees who need to travel to Malaysia for business purposes can apply for their Malaysia eVisa here.
