Pakistani nationals are now eligible for a free visa on arrival in Qatar. The visa is valid for a period of 30 days and can be extended for an additional month. “The concerned authorities of the State of Qatar has decided that the citizens of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan will be granted free prompt tourist entry visa for the period of 30 days, on their arrival in the State of Qatar,” read a statement by the Embassy of the State of Qatar. Earlier in August, Qatar announced a new visa-free arrangement for visitors of 80 countries.
Qatar has also described a series of requirements that must be met in order to receive the visa-on-arrival. The most important requisite is that the Pakistani passport is valid for at least six months upon arrival. The visitor must have a confirmed returned ticket, a credit card or cash equivalent to QR 5000. The Qatar embassy has also noted that people traveling directly from Pakistan should have a vaccination certificate against polio. Borders for citizens of Pakistan are opening up, in addition to Qatar, there are 27 nations that offer visa-on-arrival to Pakistanis.
After facing an embargo from neighboring countries, the middle-eastern nation extended the visa-on-arrival to large nations like India, China, and Russia. Qatar wishes to increment tourism and cultural exchange with other nations. When the 80 countries were first announced, Pakistanis lamented not being included. Slowly Qatar has been adapting their visa policies to include more countries. Just recently, Qatar declared that Moroccans and Algerians with a valid residence permit or visa from the U.S, UK, Canda, Australia, New Zealand, Schengen countries, and Gulf Cooperation Council countries would be issued a visa-on-arrival.
Visa-on-arrival vs. E-visa
A visa-on-arrival is exactly a visa that is granted to the visitor upon arrival to the airport or border entry. Visas on arrival usually carry a cost and have specific requirements. An electronic visa, e-visa, means that it is possible to apply for a visa through an online system. Many nations across the globe have started to implement e-visas, some of them include Azerbaijan, Myanmar, India, Australia and the United States's ESTA.
Electronic visas are a travel authorization that can be obtained online. All e-visas carry a fee and should be completed before departure. Most e-visas also required that the traveler's passport is valid for a minimum period. The applicant must provide a valid e-mail address where the approved visa can be sent to. Before traveling anywhere in the world, people are advised to research the visa possibilities and requirements. In some cases, the absence of a visa will result in denied entry.
