Saudi Arabia to Offer International Events Visa

Saud Arabia has released an international events visa, enabling non-Saudi Arabia citizens to enter the country in order to attend the 2018 Saudia Ad Diriyah E-Prix on 15 December. The event is the first of the FIA Formula E Championship and hopes to improve the visa system for travelers who wish to attend international events in Saudi Arabia. The official visa name is the Sharek international events visa.

Visa applicants are able to apply and pay for the Sharek visa electronically. An entry ticket to the event is required in order to be eligible for visa application. The process of updating the visa process for Saudi Arabia is a big step in the direction of making Saudi Arabia more accessible to people who do not have Saudi Arabian citizenship. At present, most people who travel to Saudi Arabia travel for business purposes.

This is the first electronic visa to be released by Saudi Arabia after long-debated plans to release an online visa. The visa grants mobility within specific areas of Saudi Arabia and maintains holy cities Mecca and Medina off limits.

Saudi Arabia Online Visa Application

Sharek visa application consists of a simple application form that can be completed online. Applicants are required to fill out their personal details, passport information and upload an ID photo which can be used for the visa. The email address used in the Saudi Arabia online visa application form is used to communicate all visa application updates, as well as where the final eVisa will be sent.

Requirements for the Sharek international events visa include:

  • The possession of a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity from the date of entry to Saudi Arabia.
  • A valid credit or debit card for online visa payment.

For How Long Is The Saudi Arabia eVisa Valid?

After receiving your visa approval for the Sharek international event visa by email, you will be able to enter Saudi Arabia from 1-15 December. The Sharek visa permits a stay of 14 days in Saudi Arabia and excludes the holy cities, Mecca and Medina.

Applying for a Saudi Arabia eVisa does not require visa applicants to visit an embassy or consulate and costs 640 riyals which should be paid on the secure payment platform of the official website.

Future events are expected to be incorporated into the online visa system, which will permit international visitors to obtain a Saudi Arabia visa in order to attend the events. A Red Sea tourism project is currently underway which is expected to allow international visitors from various countries to visit Saudi Arabia visa-free.
