thailand’s new visa scheme for 21 countries simplifies process

Thailand’s New Visa Scheme for 21 Countries

Thailand has released information regarding a new system for a Thai eVisa on arrival that will help to support tourism, although Ireland and the UK have been excluded from the initial phase as of yet.

The new Thailand visa on arrival scheme is said to modernize the visa system for travelers who wish to visit Thailand and will be introduced from 14 February 2019.

Thailand eVisa on Arrival Process

It will take approximately 24 to 72 hours for Thai eVisa applications to be assessed and confirmed or denied via email. This fast online process will enable travelers to receive confirmation of Thai visa approval prior to traveling. The visa will be applied for and paid online which signifies that travelers will also avoid having to pay for their visa in cash upon arrival.

An express Thai eVisa on arrival will also be available to those in need of a Thai visa travel authorization confirmation within a timeframe of 24 hours. This service will be provided at an additional fee.

The Thailand Immigration Bureau Commissioner has said that the new Thai visa system will facilitate the visa process for many travelers and bring the visa system up to speed with a new digital solution for the Thai visa systems.

  • Cyprus
  • Ethiopia
  • Fiji

  • Kazakhstan
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Maldives
  • Malta

All citizens from the above countries will be required to fulfill the Thailand visa on arrival requirements in order to receive a valid visa approval confirmation.

Thailand Visa on Arrival Requirements

It is not yet certain which visa requirements will be altered for the new Thai eVisa scheme, although it is certain that visa payment will be paid online, as opposed to on arrival.

Originally, Thai visa processes required physical copies of documents to be presented, such as a photo, spare passport copy and even other Thailand visa on arrival requirements such as local currency in cash. However, the new initiative will put an end to some of these requirements, making the process of obtaining a Thailand visa on arrival easier.

The new Thailand eVisa on arrival scheme will enable travelers to apply for a Thai visa prior to departure by receiving a confirmed travel authorization and applicants will be expected to pay for their visa online, avoiding the need to pay in local cash upon arrival.
