The Ukrainian Government has launched the Ukraine Online Visa. It is a new initiative aimed at simplifying the process of obtaining a visa for Ukraine.
A government press release stated: "An e-Visa is a completely new project for Ukraine, which is being implemented in our country for the first time in order to modernize existing procedures in the visa sphere."
The online visa application form can be completed in a matter of minutes, removing the need to visit an embassy or consulate. It allows visitors to enter for tourism and business purposes and spend up to 30 days in the country.
To apply, applicants need to fill out an online application form and upload scanned copies of the required documentation. The processing time for the application is up to nine business days.
If approved, the electronic visa is sent to the applicant by email. The traveler can then print a copy to show to the Ukrainian border authorities.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has developed the most simplified process of obtaining an e-Visa, which, at the same time, allows for effective migration control," the announcement said.
The application process involves answering a series of questions and entering information such as name, address, date of birth, and passport details. There are also some security-related questions. Applicants are urged to make sure all the information they enter is accurate as any mistakes could lead rejected applications.
A beautiful country untouched by tourism
Ukraine is not a traditionally popular tourist destination though it could become one. It is a beautiful, diverse country with a fascinating history and culture. Many popular tourist locations are overrun with tourism and many travelers are looking for locations which are off-the-beaten-track. The Ukrainian Government will hope that the introduction of the electronic visa will give tourism a boost.
Pavel Klimkin, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, tweeted: "We are making Ukraine even closer to the world, today we have launched an electronic visa. Citizens of 46 countries can now apply for a visa to Ukraine without leaving home."
The following countries can apply for the Ukraine Online Visa:
Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Bahrain, Bolivia, Bhutan, Vanuatu, Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, Grenada, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Cambodia, Qatar, Costa Rica, Kuwait, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Mauritius, Malaysia, Maldives, Mexico, Micronesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, New Zealand, Oman, Palau, Peru, El Salvador, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Singapore, Suriname, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu, Fiji, Jamaica.
Applicants need to have a valid passport from one of the eligible countries as well as a bank card to pay the fee.
All visitors need a visa to enter Ukraine unless they are from a visa-exempt country. Citizens from the USA, all EU countries, Canada, Japan, Russia and many other countries can enter Ukraine for periods of up to 90 days without a visa. Citizens from five countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Uzbekistan) can enter visa-free for indefinite periods.
